Conclusions from the American Association conference for Reproductive Medicine

At the end of October, an important event took place in the world of reproductive medicine in which our clinic took an active part – the conference of the American Association of Reproductive Medicine in Los Angeles. This conference sets directions for the development of technology and science for the next year, gives an opportunity to solve the most difficult problems related to the successful achievement of pregnancy and the birth of healthy children in families!

The main topics to highlight:

  • Found and proven additional factors of genetic thrombophilia, which are important to consider in cases of repeated implantation failure and habitual miscarriage
  • The importance of maintaining the state of the thyroid gland at the stage of pregnancy planning and its importance for successful pregnancy, the impact of autoimmune thyroiditis were discussed
  • Important data are presented that more than half of the cases of premature decrease and depletion of the ovarian reserve in women do not have a genetic cause, but are due to the harmful effects of toxic factors: (pesticides, certain varnishes, plastic, bad habits – smoking, improper nutrition)
  • An important issue in conducting PGT-P – preimplantation genetic testing for polygenic disorders (who needs to be tested and what benefits it provides for patients) was discussed
  • Real inspiration was given with the report of Elizabeth Blackburn, winner of the Nobel Prize from Britain, about the effect of telomeres length on the aging process of the body and on fertility. A view of what affects the acceleration of telomere shortening in humans and how it affects the health of the future generations (we will definitely cover this issue in a separate post with greater length)
  • They discussed the prospects of using stem cells with a reduced ovarian reserve and in other areas of reproductive technologies
  • Extensive data on the use of progestins as an alternative to drugs from the group of GnRH agonists in superovulation stimulation cycles were provided. These convincing data has been proved that this scheme gives us a similar result in terms of oocyte maturation, fertilization and euploid embryos, but has economic advantages for the patient and significantly reduces the number of stimulation injections

We also had the opportunity to meet with talented colleagues and our friends, real leaders of reproductive medicine, and discuss their experience and ways of helping married couples on the way to their dream parenthood!
