In the package insert for the medication, detailed instructions are provided on how to correctly set and administer the required dose, and usually, there are no problems with single-dose pens. You turn the dose selector to the mark corresponding to the required dose (0.25/0.5/1.0 mg) and inject. In such pen-injectors, you can only set the dose indicated on the packaging.

\*In Ukraine, OZEMPIC (semaglutide), injection solution, is registered as a medicinal product used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes:

– Dose: 0.25/0.5 mg; in cartridges of 1.5 ml, placed in a pre-filled disposable pen injector;

\*One pen injector contains 2 mg of semaglutide in 1.5 ml of solution; a total of 8 doses of 0.25 mg or 4 doses of 0.5 mg.

– Dose: 1 mg; in cartridges of 3.0 ml, placed in a pre-filled multi-dose disposable pen injector;

\*1 ml of solution contains 1.34 mg of semaglutide;

\*One pen injector contains 4 mg of semaglutide in 3.0 ml of solution; a total of 4 doses of 1 mg.

For example, in a pen containing 2.0 mg of semaglutide, you can set a dose of 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg, while in one containing 4.0 mg of semaglutide, only a 1.0 mg dose can be set.

Confusion arises with multi-dose pen injectors, where the dose is set by counting clicks.

Usually, this refers to the drug Wegovy (semaglutide), intended for the treatment of obesity.

The dose variability in such pen injectors has a step of 0.25 mg, so depending on the number of clicks, you can set a dose of 0.25 – 0.5 – 0.75 – 1.0 mg and up to 2.4 mg (this is the maximum dose of Wegovy, unlike Ozempic).

Below is a click-count table for selecting the correct dose:

 A similar table exists for the drug Mounjaro (tirzepatide), which unfortunately is not yet registered in Ukraine.

Storage conditions and shelf life of pen injectors:

  • After first use, the Ozempic pen can be stored for 56 days at room temperature (15-30°C) or in a refrigerator (2-8°C).
  • Wegovy can be stored for 8 weeks at room temperature.
  • The multi-dose Mounjaro pen requires refrigeration at 2-8°C until expiration or can be stored at room temperature for up to 30 days.

Please remember that self-medication with semaglutide and tirzepatide may have unpredictable effects and pose risks to your health.
